Below is a list of the tasks and responsibilities carried out by the General Department of Expatriates Affairs (GDEA):
- Supervise the work of relevant departments, co-ordinate among them and work to develop the level of performance; and audit and control work procedures; submit proposals on them; and lift obstacles.
- Participate in proposing policies and regulations; and regulations relating to expatriates and revise same whenever needed.
- Provide all information and statistics on foreigners living in the kingdom; and analyse such statistics and submit recommendations thereon to the officials.
- Participate in the implementation of policies and studies of Saudization (replacing expats with Saudis); and ensure application of regulations to prevent expats from engaging in trade, or activities and occupations stipulated for Saudis.
- Co-ordinate works of bodies responsible for expats' issues.
- Participate in committees, conferences and seminars; and prepare the necessary studies to solve expats issues with other relevant bodies.
