Abha:
Abha is the capital of Aseer (the tribe and the region) that has been praised by poets and artists; it is the "Gift of God." When you were in Abha, you feel as if you knew it for a long time. The beauty captures the hearts in Abha; shrouded in fog, and rain drenches her coat, it is truly an earth paradise.
Abah is also a historical and old city; it still embraces the remains of ancient castles parked on the tops of the mountains, such as Zarra Castle, Shamsan, Abu-Khiyaal Castel and Ad-Dagal. The buildings in Abha are distinctive and unique where houses are built of mud, and decorated with lines and inscriptions.
Historical sources indicate that Abha had been one district named Manazer; then new districts began to appear such as Al-Moftaha, Al-Gra, Al-Robou etc. Currently the number of districts is more than fifty.
During the past three decades, Abha has become one of the most important cities in Saudi Arabia after the completion of infrastructure of roads, which linked it to other areas of the Kingdom, in addition to the regional airport, a university, six colleges and several hospitals
The most important features of Abah are: Abha Dam of which capacity of rainwater is about 2.13 million cubic meters; the lake attracts visitors for its beautifulness. A new tourist resort has been established on the outskirts of the Lake as one of the largest tourism projects in the Middle East.
Khamis Mushait:
Khamis Mushait lies at the center of Aseer. It is the second largest city in the region and traditional business center. This makes it the first in the region and the third commercial city in the Kingdom. Khamis Mushait is ideally located at the middle of roads linking the main areas of the region with the rest of the cities of the Kingdom. The climate is calm.
The city has expanded; many residential hotels, furnished apartments and tourism services were established. Khamis Mushait is surrounded by archaeological sites like "Jarash"— a historical site at the southeast of the City, in addition to some of the areas of modern tourism, such as "Bin Hamsan Heritage Village", which is an integrated model of the heritage of the region.
Bishah:
It lies 260 miles north of Abha; many roads link it to other Saudi areas; and it has an airport.
The climate in Bishah is hot in summer and moderate in winter. The most important landmark in Bishah is "King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz Dam" in the Valley of Bishah about 35 km southwest. Measuring 507 m length and 113 m height, the Dam is the biggest in the Middle East after the High Dam in Egypt. Behind the dam, there is the largest artificial fresh-water-lake in the Kingdom covering 30 square kilometers; and its storage capacity is about 352 million cubic meters of fresh water.
Al-Nammas:
Al-Nammas lies on the top of As-Sarwatt Mountains about 155 kilometers north of Abha, on the road to Tayef and Abha.
A number of valleys flow in Al-Nammas; the area is covered with natural vegetation and watersheds, which gives it a beautiful landscape. The dense forest and services make the city a destination for many visitors and holidaymakers.
Maha'el Asseer:
Maha'el Asseer lies 80 km north-west of Abha (occupying a distinct location at the road junction at the middle between Tihama and Aseer).
It also represents a good economic situation. The city's rapid growth, and the availability of many government services and public utilities besides the warm climate in winter, the city is a resort for the inhabitants of high areas.
Rejal Almaa:
Rejal Almaa is a historical city where the Tihamat-Aseer tribes live. It is located at an altitude of 1250 meters west of Abha, 45 km from Aqabat As-Sammaa. The area is rugged with mountain paths, where the unknown villages and farms are located on the slopes of the mountains. Many valleys flow there.
Al-Majardah:
Al-Majardah is one of the governorates of Aseer that is located in the north-west of the region. It is one of Aseer winter's resorts because of its natural beauty and mild weather in winter.
Surat Ubayda:
Surat Ubayda is one of the governorates of Aseer. It is famous for its Thursday's Market and "Khalaf Archaeological Village". Surat Ubayda is located 90 km from Abha; it includes many centers such as Al-Farsha and Wadi Al-Hayat.
Ohud Rafidah:
Ohud Rafidah is one of the historical areas, nearest to the Jerash historical site. It is located in the mountains at height of 2000 meters above sea level, 25 kilometers from Khamis Mushait. The climate is nice and the nature is attractive.
Belgarn:
Belgarn is located in the southwestern part of the Arabian Peninsula nominated by longitudes 41.30o42.05 E, and latitudes 19.10o19.41 N.
It bounders Bano-Khalid, Bano-Wass, Shamran, Bano-Al-Muntashir and Gahmid from the north; Bano-Amr, Bano-Shahr and Harb from the south; Bano-Khalid Balharith and Bano-Amr from the east; and Harb and Bano-Essa from the west. Belgarn is located over the tops of the mountains two thousand feet above sea level.
Tathleith:
The governorate of Tathleith is located in the southwest of Saudi Arabia, 200 kilometers from Abha and Khamis Mushait, northeast of Riyadh on the road to the south. It is located 170 km from Wadi Ad-Dawasir, and 90 km from Bishah. The populations are of the tribes of Qahtan and other tribes; Tathleith is the center and capital for Qahtan in the south.
Dhahran Al-Janoub:
Dhahran Al-Janoub is located in the southwest of Saudi Arabia— an excellent geographical location that helped it grows in various critical areas. It borders Bilad Qahtan from the north; Yemen from the south; Najran from east; and Tihama from the west.
The area is full of valleys and wells. It is a commercial center with organised concentration of tens of shops selling various types of commodities.
