Prisoners need good nutrition to keep fit, so the Directorate General of Prisons (DGP) provides good and healthy food and concentrate on cleanliness of prisoners: their clothes, utensils, utilities, etc.
All prisoners get two types of food as follows:
Hot meals
In accordance with the Saudi prisons law, some prisons serve hot meals.
Serving meals in prisons includes the following regulations:
- Three meals are served per day.
- In Ramadan, two (2) meals are served for the prisoner.
- For non-Muslim prisoners, normal meals are served on time.
- For sick people and babies, food is served in accordance with the physician's instructions.
Cash food allowance
In the branch prisons, 12 S.R. is paid daily to every prisoner. Prisoners share in cooking their food under supervision of the prisons' administrations. Cleanliness is guaranteed. Using knives and sharp tools is allowed only under restrictions to guarantee prisoners safety.
Petty cash
Prisoners who are offered hot meals are paid petty cash to help them get some personal things they need.
